The Arrowhead Hotel is located on the well known 'Arrowhead' corner in downtown Hartford, Connecticut. The site focuses around two historic buildings which sat heavily underutilized at the project's conception. In an effort to revitalize the community, the hotel is designed to utilize the existing open spaces at the ground level to allow pedestrian circulation to its guests while allowing the community to still gather outside as they would prior to the project's development.
In response to the communities usageĀ and circulation through the site, the decision to maintain the historic buildings as two separate spaces was made: one private building dedicated to the hotel guests and one public side offering retail and restaurants for guests and the adjacent community. To encourage connectivity and circulation through the site, the building uses a glass curtain wall in the passing spaces to allow transparency into the site, while brick is incorporated to respect the historical context of the existing buildings and neighborhood.
